News of the Day

Jon Langford December 8 - January 4

Artist, activist and a pioneer of the original punk revolution, Jon Langford's solo exhibition of his artwork at The J.P. Art Market is his first solo exhibition in the Boston area in several years. From December 8 - January 4th, the gallery will be home to Langford’s portraits of country music icons (including Johnny Cash, Porter Wagonner, Charley Pride and Patsy Cline), original instigators of rock ‘n’ roll (Jerry Lee Lewis), pop legends (Marc Bolan and Tom Jones) and first wave punk pioneers (The Clash), hanging alongside his images of a whale, a bird, beer, a skull-headed cowboy on horseback and other eclectic subject matter. Langford first found fame as a member of the Mekons, the punk band he formed while still an art student at the University of Leeds in 1977 that is still on the road today. Despite touring and recording with the Mekons, his other bands, and as a solo artist, he remains incredibly prolific as a visual artist and much of the work he’ll be exhibiting at The J.P. Art Market has been created in the past year. This untitled exhibit is not only a welcome return of his visual art to New England but also a relatively short-lived and intimate one. The less than 20 pieces on display and up for sale, with some of the prints being from small limited editions, will be up for just over 3 weeks.
